Senior Business Analyst

IN SHORT

Based at the SM&T London Office, the Business Analyst (BA) will be an integral part of the Middle & Office Back Office (MOBO) team. In this role, the BA will collaborate closely with key stakeholders to support and enhance business processes, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives. Reporting directly to the Lead Business Analyst, the successful candidate will contribute to the analysis, documentation, and implementation of business requirements, driving improvements within the MOBO function.

WHAT WILL YOU DO

The Business Analyst (BA) will play a key role in enhancing SM&T’s Risk and Integration & Reporting (I&R) systems, supporting new product onboarding and evolving business needs across Risk, Middle Office, and Finance teams. Working within an agile framework, the BA will collaborate closely with Subject Matter Experts, Business Stakeholders, and developers to support system improvements and provide third-line support for middle and back-office applications.

The role also involves leading business projects, supporting commercial initiatives, and contributing to continuous improvement efforts focused on automation, controls, and risk reduction. Based in the London office, the BA will support SM&T’s business expansion across the UK, Europe, and Asia Pacific by ensuring business requirements are thoroughly analysed and met.

 

  • Supporting onboarding of new products and system enhancements for Risk, Middle Office, and Finance
  • Providing third-line support and collaborating with developers on middle/back-office systems
  • Leading ad hoc business projects from requirements gathering through implementation
  • Collaborating globally to improve operational accuracy, efficiency, and controls
  • Supporting User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and operational readiness activities

WHAT WILL YOU BRING

The ideal candidate will possess detailed knowledge of Risk Reporting and be proficient in Position, Exposure, and P&L Reporting for both Physical and Financial Instruments. They should have a strong understanding of market risk methodologies and quantitative concepts, including MVaR, CVaR, CVA/DVA, Options and Greeks, as well as experience with Backtesting, Stress Testing, and scenario analysis across multi-commodity portfolios.

In addition, the candidate will be experienced in integrating trading and financial systems to ensure seamless data flow and enhance business processes. This expertise is essential to support accurate risk assessment and reporting, enabling better decision-making and operational efficiency within the business.

 

  • Familiarity with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, such as SAP.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools and techniques.
  • Ability to efficiently compare and harmonize data sets from various sources, ensuring accuracy and consistency in the integration and reporting process.
  • Strong SQL skills for querying and analysing large datasets without necessarily building solutions.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and with limited guidance.
