Power Analyst

IN SHORT

As a Power Analyst you will collect, review, interpret, and analyse information/data about the Central and Western European, Southern European, and UK power markets. Using this data you will keep the traders informed about news and data that could influence the market price for electricity contracts, and how this impacts our in-house price/risk premium forecasts for the next 18 to 24 months. 

WHAT WILL YOU DO

Responsible (as part of a team) for the in house stack models, you will maintain and improve the inputs and calibration of the models. Your extensive fundamental analysis and modelling of the power markets from cross border flows, thermal plant activities, power consumption and renewable energy availablity across Europe, will enable you to work with the traders and other analysts to develop trading strategies. You will also: 

  • Develop, back-test and run detailed analytical models of the European electricity market (with a specific focus on coupled stack modelling). 
  • Systematise the development of the stack model
  • Work with the gas, LNG, and carbon analysts to better understand the dynamics in global energy markets
  • Following and explaining news flow relevant to the European power market, covering networks, companies, and regulations 

WHAT WILL YOU BRING

Your strong analytical skills and ability to learn on the job is key for success. The focus on the details and continuous improvement alongside your excellent communication skills is essesntial. You will also need to be able to: 

  • Work across the team and organisation
  • Explain complex technical subjects to a diverse audience. 
  • Perform ad hoc analysis and prepare detailed product specifications using Python and SQL 
  • Track record of making appropriate decisions in time critical situations. 
  • Fluent in English and an understanding of another European language (German, French, Italian, or Spanish)
  • Educated to degree level, or equivalent qualification or experience.
