Middle Office Senior Analyst (Trading) (m/f/d)

IN SHORT

Senior analyst within the Middle Office who will be involved across the full range of aspects of the teams activites,with an expectation of shaping, focusing and improving the business processes, with responsibility for the accurate, independent reporting of daily economic Gross Margin, open financial & physical exposures and attribution/commentary thereof daily. This is coupled with the generation of an accurate monthly IFRS-compliant Gross Margin, along with the full reconciliations vs the Economic revaluations. Additional accountability includes the direct support of the commercial aims of the company by designing and delivering new product / commodity onboarding within the parameters of the DLC, provision of ad-hoc analysis, support, challenge & corroboration with the commercial teams supported and proactively & continuously identifying and implementing efficiency and control improvement initiatives. The role also includes accountability for supporting the junior members of the Middle Office team with daily operational challenges and sharing business knowledge.

WHAT WILL YOU DO

  • Independent generation of a T+1 daily economic P&L revaluation, physical & financial exposure reporting and full attribution thereof linking back to underlying market and position changes, working within the parameters of the middle office policies and frameworks.
  • Conduct any ad-hoc/one-off portfolio analysis upon both the Front Office or any other Support Function requests with regards to both the economic and IFRS valuation impact of a new commercial transactions/hedging strategy, coupled with the creation of both periodic and ad-hoc Middle Office reports for senior management, along with acting under delegation where required for the Middle Office Team Lead.
  • Preparation of monthly IFRS complaint portfolio valuations, ensuring full understanding of any variances to the daily Economic P&L, adhering to the appropriate accounting frameworks.
  • Proactively identifying and prioritising IT-supported initiatives and end-user tactical solutions to improve team efficiencies and reduce operational risk and controls. Implementing end-user tactical solutions, along with sufficient controls and governance around their usage.
  • Work closely with the Commercial Teams, both providing ad hoc independent challenge to / support of the commercial functions and facilitating & supporting new business and operational readiness ventures,generating ideas to solve problems while adhering to the DLC framework,
  • Work closely with other core Risk functions, ensuring alignment and consistency on risk treatment, and with Finance / Tax, ensuring alignment on month-end IFRS reporting.
  • Regularly review the existing Reporting & Control system in the light of the ever-changing nature of the portfolio and external market conditions.
  • Generating and maintaining appropriate methodology documentation for all process deliverables.
  • Solid representation of the Middle Office.

WHAT WILL YOU BRING

  • Bachelor's degree or similar qualification
  • Experience within a Middle Office / Risk function experience within commodities trading is mandatory, coupled with sound knowledge of Middle Office best practices across the Deal Lifecycle .
  • Exposure to economic valuation principles of one or more of the following is mandatory; Natural Gas, LNG, Power or Oil
  • Prior direct experience of Non-Linear valuation principles and the greeks is desired
  • Excellent communication skills are essential given the interaction across a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Proactive self-starter attitude, with a proven record of delivering system and process improvements
  • Solid understanding of the global energy markets and key drivers of price change
  • Ability to conduct high-calibre deliveries in a timely manner in a fast-growing working environment; foster feasible albeit robust solution to problems within the imparted timeline;
  • Solid analytical skills are a must, facilitating concise report generation for senior management and other stakeholders.
  • Coding skills (Python, VBA) are desired but not essential.
