Cross Commodity Power Prompt Trader

IN SHORT

You will identify, develop and execute trading strategies in the short term power markets with a particular interest to develop sparkspreads, profile and locational opportunities. Working with the gas and carbon traders to develop and execute cross commodity strategies with a power focus. 

WHAT WILL YOU DO

Developing and managing trading ideas/strategies in the short term power markets, you will lead the fundamental analysis and modelling of the short term power market. Working with other power analysts and traders to develop wider market strategies, you will also: 

  • Follow, understand and be able to explain news stories about the power networks, market, companies and regulations. 
  • Support and develop the bilateral trading and origination businesses.
  • Work with the gas and carbon traders to develop and execute cross commodity strategies.
  • Point of contact for power market regulations, including proposed changes and consultations.
  • Accurate daily reporting of trades, positions and PnL.
  • Management of trading risk; within agreed limits and due regard to market liquidity

WHAT WILL YOU BRING

A track record of trading Power in a prop environment, ideally with exposure to cross commodities trading, is essential. You will be able to explain a complex technical subject to differing audiences of technical understanding, and be able to make decisions in time critical situations. You will also have: 

  • Proven track record of consistently delivering to revenue and targets
  • Detailed knowledge of power generation, transmission and supply
  • Strong programming skills 
  • Deep analytical thinking
  • Able to work in a complex matrix organisation
