Legal Counsel

IN SHORT

As Legal Counsel to support our significant LNG business, negotiating and executing an extensive range of LNG documents and providing clear and business-focussed advice on disputes affecting our LNG business.

WHAT WILL YOU DO

You will be an integral part of the Legal Team and a core member of the overall risk management process. You will be responsible for all legal matters pertaining to LNG. Key responsibilities include:

  • Proactive support to the LNG trading and origination teams, including the drafting and negotiation of LNG documentation such as Long-Term SPAs, Master Agreements and Confirmation Notices, Term Sheets, NDAs, terminal use agreements, charters and other ancillary documentation in support of SEFE’s trading, shipping and regasification activities.
  • Advice on disputes related to the LNG business.
  • Monitoring and remaining ahead of changes in applicable laws and regulations that might impact on the LNG business.
  • Able to articulate and converse at all levels; clear-thinking and decisive with the ability to propose solutions, particularly in resolving negotiation deadlocks.

WHAT WILL YOU BRING

Previous experince working as a LNG lawyer either inhouse or in private practice is essential for this role. You will have several years PQE as a solicitor in the UK or a British Commonwelath Jurisdiction. You will also need: 

  • Strong understanding of the LNG industry and its commercial drivers.
  • Excellent understanding of law and regulation affecting LNG transactions and sanctions compliance.
  • Solid understanding of legal issues arising under LNG SPAs and MSPAs.
  • Familiarity with charters and regasification terminal documents is an advantage.
  • Some disputes experience an advantage, particularly arbitration.
  • Strong drafting skills.
